Your opinion please

I am looking for some advice.

After having one person in my life commit suicide and some one I love dearly, become temporally psychotic and violent, both wile coming off Effexor, I started to research the drug. I discovered that this class of drugs is very dangerous. I have been working for years to get this info out. I am not alone. Other people have been working as hard as me. Some are doctors, some are former users of the drugs, some are moms who lost kids and wives who lost husbands.

The information we have is very complex. It is hard to get people to listen. They think it has nothing to do with them. But they do not know that all most all school massacres have been done by people on these drugs. That normaly kind people are killing neighbors and people they love and it keeps happening. They do not know that the list of nightmarish side effects is incredibly long or how bad the withdrawal can be.

Recently it has been proven the the drug companies have been hiding the negative studies. Now a new Meta Study INCORPORATES the Hidden Studies: SSRI & SSNRI Antidepressants Work No Better Than Placebos for the vast majority of depressed people.

And still most people do not know the facts. These mostly useless, scary drugs with so many awful side effects are the most prescribed drugs today.

I am growing worn out by this work. But when ever I try to quit, I think of all the people whose life's have been harmed by this giant campaign of misinformation created by an industry that has become wealthy selling dangerous snake oil. How can I stop, knowing that there are so many people who need this information? I feel haunted by the burden of information that badly needs to be told.

Please tell me. What would you do?

    hi leslee,
we have interacted a bit about this on another tribe - as you know.
what i would like to say is that i dont think it is your job to save everyone.
you can reach out and help some people, but you cannot save every one.
its too much of a load for one person to carry.
i used to feel that way when i majored in environmental sciences - but it became too much and i became very upset.
now i do what i can in my work to help make a difference in the world - one person at a time now.
also, i know some people who think that anti-depressants have helped them.
i have even had clients on effexor who were not violent and didnt commit suicide (as far as i know).
people have a lot of resources available to them to research the drugs they are being prescribed and can be responsible for themselves and their choices. many many more people are becoming more aware that a pill is probably not the answer.
i respect the work you are trying to do, but your own self-care is important too.
    take care.

Thank you for sharing this. True, it is not your job to save the whole world, but do not grow apathetic either. God has guided you to share this info otherwise you would not have bothered at all. Trust your own guidance. E-mail this info to the people you know and post it where you can on the internet, and then LET IT GO. God is in charge after that. The people who need to see it will see it. Trust God. Learn how to become unattached to the outcome of your service to God and humanity and you will be able to keep serving without getting burned out.

THANK YOU for your service BEAUTIFUL ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that one has to take care of one's SELF before attempting to take care of others. When you are in a calmer, more peaceful place, you will be much more effective. You will be more able to present the information you want to get out in a clear and rational way, to target the right audiences, and with a much better chance of being heard.

You will also, I believe, begin to notice that the information you are trying to "get out" is already out. I have read it elsewhere. In fact, my antidepressant comes with a handout warning of just the things you describe. Most of the more dangerous side effects - increased suicidality and homicidal tendencies - occur primarily in adolescents and young adults. Not everyone is at equal risk.

Anyone who takes medication should weigh the risks and advantages. Your assumption that we're all a bunch of naive and ignorant sheep who need to be "taught" by you - our savior - is both insulting and narcissistic.

No, these drugs are not beneficial for everybody. But there is an epidemic of depression in the world today. Many, many people would commit suicide without these drugs. Many people cannot function enough to care for their children, or themselves, without them. Your hysterical postings are just as much propaganda as that put out by the pharmaceutical companies you so despise.

(Propaganda defined as: A concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people.)

I think your energies could be better spent elsewhere. Like taking care of yourself and your loved ones. Or trying to get legislation passed. Or pursuing a PhD in chemistry or an MD in psychiatry. If you want people to heal themselves non-pharmaceutically, become a naturopath or other alternative healer, and people will come flocking to you for help. Helping those that want and seek your help will be more fulfilling and a lot less exhausting than trying to force your help on those who resent it.

I strongly believe that spreading more unwanted propaganda across the internet is not the way to help people. And I do not believe it is anyone's calling in life to do such a thing. If you really feel you are on a mission, maybe it's time to revisit your tactics.

Leslee, I would trust your passion. I have visited your profile and your tribe and obviously this is your passion. And I personally appreciate what you are doing very, very much. I do not resent you at all. Your passion is a direct reflection of God's desire to serve humanity. Deny your passion and your are denying God. This denial will surely result in depression! Trust your guidance. You can choose to do anything with your life and it can either bring you happiness or unhappiness, depending on your attitude about it. Choose to be happy about your passion. And don't doubt your choice to follow your passion.

Because you are in conflict, others will reflect conflicting answers back to you (all we are are mirrors reflecting back to you where you accept and deny the essence of yourself). Trust your gut. You do not need me or anyone else to tell you what your passion is or is not.

With all due respect to Dean, if we all took his advice all the artists and musicians would stop creating art and music...because "who needs another piece of art or another song, isn't there enough art and enough music in the world? There seems to be a surplus of artwork, music, artists and musicians." But the artists and musicians create becaue they literally feel that they have to. It is a burning passion that drives them. I admire that passion. If only the rest of the world had as much passion as the artist or musician has in their little finger, the world would be a better place.

God does not make mistakes. God does not create such passion in you so that you would deny it. The Beatles were pasisonate about music for 10 long years before they got a break and actually achieved success. During that first 10 years they worked in dive bars and lived in poverty. The club owners and audiences treated them like shit. Most people would have given up and walked away and gotten a "real job" after a few years of that. But the Beatles were so passionate about making music that they never gave up. They did it because they loved it, not because of what other people thought about them. Now they are one of the greatest bands in history. They have shaped the history of music. What would the world be without the Beatles? Personally I love the Beatle's music and listen to it almost daily. And I love you Leslee and appreciate your passion to educate people about anti-depressants. I really admire what you are doing and my heart is bursting with love, compassion, and gratitude for you Leslee. You go girl!!!!

        P.S.

It sounds to me like you just need to give yourself permission to take a break/vacation/hiatus/some "me time" and you are looking for the mirror to give you permission so that you do not feel guilty. I think everyone on this thread unanimously agrees that that is a good idea. But don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Just because you might need a break for awhile does not mean you quit altogether forever.
